Zest, in culinary terms, refers to the outer peel of a citrus fruit, prized for its ability
to enhance flavour in cooking and baking. However, the term also embodies a
broader concept: an approach to life characterised by enthusiasm and vitality.
Two years prior to the establishment of Zest Art and Counselling, I established a
project that facilitated individuals in articulating their traumatic experiences
through art. During this period, I coined a Chinese phrase:
載[joi3]憶[yik1]
which translates to
carrying memories.
Clients bring their memories into the counselling room, embarking on a journey of
self-exploration. They are empowered to create and carry new, positive memories
for the future after sessions. These newly formed memories serve as both
therapeutic and restorative, infusing their lives with uplifting elements akin to zest
and energising them to confront present and future challenges.
To convey the essence of this philosophy in a more engaging manner in English, I
select-ed the name "Zest." This choice not only resonates with the phonetic
qualities of the Chinese term, but also aligns seamlessly with the overarching
mission of Zest Art and Counselling, encapsulating an ethos of vitality and renewal.
Zest provides counselling services to adults proficient in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Furthermore, its knowledge encompasses various religious beliefs or faith, including Catholicism, Christianity, and Islam, acquired through prior experience. Zest also welcomes people without any religious beliefs and faith
Zest demonstrates considerable proficiency in collaborating with individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, embodying the necessary cultural sensitivity to effectively address your specific needs.
Zest offers alternative approach that incorporates both artistic expression and neuroscience.
Engaging with art facilitates activation of both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, It also enhances neuroplasticity—the brain's capacity to adapt and evolve over a lifetime by forming new neural pathways and connections.
Your tight schedule may limit your availability to attend in-person appointments. Zest provides online counselling sessions. Online sessions are proven to be as effective as traditional face-to-face consultations.
